How to get more legroom

Do your research.

Australia is a long way to come for just about anyone. Furthermore, once you are here it can take another two hours or more to reach your final destination.

The technical term for legroom is seat pitch which is measured head-to-head Seat pitch in economy ranges from around 75cm in some budget carriers, to a generous 87cm.

To find the airlines offering the most legroom check these two sites:

http://www.uk-air.net
- has a list of over 100 airlines and their seat pitch. Included on the site are links to seating plans. Qantas seating plans were unfortunately, unavailable as at, 28.05.06.

http://www.seatguru.com
- has useful comparison charts and other information

The best plan is to book early and if possible join any preferred customer program which usually allows you the choice of seat.

If you intend or do fly often several airlines have introduced a class between economy and business class.

Virgin has 'premium economy', British Airways, 'world traveller plus' and United, 'Premium Economy'. The United's is only available to its frequent flyers.

Check ahead for prices for any preferred seating including the emergency rows and remember to check the seating plans before calling in or arrival at the Check-in counter.
