| Adelaide
has more restaurants per person than any other city in Australia and you'll find
an extremely varied selection of cuisines, price range, and styles. For a detailed
guide to restaurants, good eating guide-books are available through the South
Australian Travel Centre on the corner of King William Street and North Terrace.
Café Society
Adelaide's
cafe culture has grown markedly in the last few years. To experience the variety,
all you need to do is take a stroll around the East End. Rundle Street is famous
for its sidewalk table-service, wonderful coffee, wine bars. In the mix of cuisine's,
you'll find some of the best Greek, Thai, Japanese, Italian, Malaysian and vegetarian
food in town. Other streets that have great cafes and restaurants include Gouger
and Hutt Streets, and O'Connell and Melbourne Streets, North Adelaide.
Cheap
Eating
For good, tasty, cheap eating in the city, try one of
the many eateries in and around the Central Market. There you'll find fish cafes
and numerous Asian restaurants in Gouger and Grote Streets. For a medley of economical
fast Asian food there is the International Food Market in the Central Market Arcade,
or Hawker's Corner, 141 West Terrace.
Fine Dining
Expert chefs using superior quality fresh ingredients mean
that Adelaide has some exceptionally good restaurants for those who enjoy fine
dining. Again refer to the good food guides for recommendations.
BY0's
Most Adelaide restaurants have full liquor licenses. Even if
they don't advertise themselves as a BYO restaurant they may not mind if you bring
your own bottled wine. It is advisable, however, to check before you do BYO. Also
be prepared to pay corkage which is set by the individual restaurateurs.
Pubs
Adelaide's historic hotels and public houses should not be
overlooked when considering where to eat. Some have extremely fine dining rooms.
Just remember that prices, menus, and ambience vary from pub to pub.
